'06 a Championship Year for Ashaway Racket Strings
Jack Huczek, winner of the Racquetball Men's Singles World Championship in the Dominican Republic in August 2006. A counter-punch player, Jack likes to take advantage of his opponents' mistakes. For maximum control over the ball, he plays with a 16-gauge string - Ashaway's SuperKill® II - which gives him more control than a thinner string. Ashaway String Technology Helps Four Players Win Three World Championships
Ashaway, RI -- 2006 was a year of champions for Ashaway Racket Strings. Four of the company's sponsored players won three world championships in three different sports, all using Ashaway strings. The Ashaway sponsored world champions are racquetball great Jack Huczek, squash legend David Palmer, and the popular badminton mixed doubles team of Gail Emms and Nathan Robertson.
"Four champions in one year sets a record even for us," said Ashaway Vice President Steve Crandall. "We're grateful that our string technology can meet the diverse needs of so many players in all these different sports. We offer our congratulations to all of these fine champions and wish for their continued success in 2007."
Mixed doubles badminton team Gail Emms and Nathan Robertson had the best year of their careers. After taking a Silver Medal in Athens in 2004, and winning the All England Mixed Doubles title in 2005, the pair won the IBF World Mixed Doubles Championship in Madrid in September. Both Gail and Nathan play with Ashaway Flex® 21 Micro, a multifilament nylon string with over 2,000 filaments in the core to provide superior control and resiliency. Both players say they string very tight to provide the exceptional control needed for world level play. "In fact," said Nathan, "I probably string tighter than I should, but the Ashaway string plays very well for me at high tension."

Known for his hard work ethic and extreme fitness level, Jack Huczek won the Racquetball Men's Singles World Championship in the Dominican Republic in August 2006. A counter-punch player, Jack likes to take advantage of his opponents' mistakes. To do this effectively, he also has to have maximum control over the ball. "I play with a 16-gauge string—Ashaway's SuperKill® II—which gives me more control than a thinner string—and I tighten up the tension as well," he explained. "I know I can rely on Ashaway string, which gives me the confidence to capitalize on those opportunities."
Squash great David Palmer won his second world title in September when he won the World Open in Egypt. Noted for being an excellent sportsman as well as a consummate professional, David plays with Ashaway PowerNick®18 string. He likes PowerNick because its multifilament Zyex® core gives him a good combination of power, ball control, and dynamic response. "The best thing about Ashaway string is it just doesn't break," said Palmer. "I'm the type of player who finds at the start of a week that one racket feels really good, and it's great to be able to use that one racket the whole tournament." Nonetheless, he added, he routinely gets four or five rackets restrung before major tournaments so that when a string does break, he has backups ready with the same string and tension
